Desiccant dryer purge cost calculator
A desiccant dryer uses some of your dry compressed air to regenerate itself. See how much, and what it costs a year.
How it is worked out
A dryer's purge is given as a share of its rated flow at 100 psig. At a higher line pressure more air goes through the purge, and at a lower one less, so the purge is adjusted to your pressure. Its cost is that air times the power it takes to make it, the hours it purges and your electricity cost.
A dryer that keeps running after the compressors stop purges the stored air, and the compressors make it again at the next start. Shutting the dryer down with its compressors stops that waste.
What it leaves out
- Dew-point demand control: a dryer that purges only when the desiccant needs it can use far less, especially at light load.
- Heater and blower electricity on heated and blower purge dryers.
- How much of the year the dryer runs below its rated flow.
Typical purge by type: Compressed Air Challenge, Best Practices for Compressed Air Systems.
Is your dryer purging when it shouldn't?CAS ASSiST finds each dryer's cycle in your logged data, including whether it keeps cycling with the compressors stopped.
